Fall temperatures have arrived in the Yakima Valley and the Homeless Network of Yakima County has started a campaign this month to help the homeless deal with the fall and winter weather.

YOU CAN HELP BY DONATING TODAY

Each year hundreds of homeless people in Yakima seek winter shelter at the Yakima Union Gospel Mission and at area churches. While many may find a warm place to sleep many walk the streets during the cold days that's where you can help. The network's Warm Hands Warm Hearts Drive is now underway. Here's how you can help. The network is hoping for donations of new or gently used gloves, handwarmers, socks and footwarmers. When you donate those items they'll be distributed by local outreach workers to those who are homeless living on the streets of Yakima.

TAKE YOUR DONATED ITEMS TO A LIBRARY OR CHECK AMAZON

You can donate items Today by dropping them off at a Yakima Valley Library. Libraries that are accepting donations until the end of the month are; The West Valley Library, Yakima Central Library, Selah Library, Sunnyside Library, Toppenish Library, Wapato Library and the Zillah Library.

HUNDREDS LIVE ON THE STREETS IN YAKIMA

Officials with the Yakima Union Gospel mission and recent homeless surveys say at any given time 500 to 700 people are homeless and living on the streets or at the mission in Yakima County. Many live along the banks of the nearby Yakima River and walk to the mission which is located at 1300 North First Street.
