Yakima Officials Issue Warning Over Permit and Airport Payment Scams
Yakima city officials are warning everyone about two different phone scams that could result in damage to your finances.
THE PHONE SCAM TARGETS A SPECIFIC GROUP OF PEOPLE
City officials say in the first scam a person calls and says they're from the city of Yakima requesting payment for permitting fees specifically targeting people who have applied for a building permit. City officials say the scammer asks for payment via a wire transfer.

JUST HANG UP THE PHONE IF YOU GET THE CALL
The city of Yakima would never accept a payment by wire transfer. If you get the call city officials say hang up and if you have any questions contact the city of Yakima directly. People have called the city saying they've received the scam calls.
That's the first.
AN EMAIL SCAM TARGETING EVERYONE
The second scam comes in the form of an email supposedly from the Yakima airport McAllister Field. The scam email says you have a "delinquent" payment you didn't make for parking at the airport. City officials say if you get the email and think you may owe for parking or have any other questions don't click on any links in the email. Instead they urge you to contact the city of Yakima directly to get answers to your questions.
SCAMMERS TARGET THE ELDERLY
Authorities have warned people for years not to click on any links in emails and to never give out financial information over the phone. They say scammers target the elderly in Yakima because many times the scams find victims. City officials urge you to warn your parents and grandparents about the scams.
