Yakima Police are warning of a scam targeting people at area store parking lots. Authorities say a couple reported to police on Tuesday they were parked at Fiesta Foods when they saw a white car with large, black lettering on the side that said “LEXUS.” The couple went to Home Depot and the same white car also pulled into Home Depot. Two Hispanic males approached the couple in the parking lot, stating that they had hit their vehicle. They showed them a dent on their vehicle, but there was no damage to the couple's vehicle.

One of the males appeared to be about 35 years old and the other 20-25 years old. Police say the males were trying to negotiate to get money from the couple and told them that if they just gave $500, it would be fine. The husband pushed back and was adamant they were not giving money. In an attempt to get the males to leave them alone, they exchanged phone numbers with the males.
Police say several people have contacted YPD with similar stories. Authorities say if these men contact you in a parking lot, immediately call 9-1-1.
