President Donald Trump is vowing to step up efforts to combat the nation's opioid addiction. He kicked off a commission Wednesday to combat the problem during an event at the White House. Yakima Police say it's a big problem in the city. Spokesman Mike Bastinelli says since many opioids are prescription drugs they're available in many medicine cabinets. "Some people will use a prescription and become addicted or other people will steal those prescriptions"
Last year Yakima Police dealt with a number of overdoses. At least one was fatal in 2016.
Bastinelli says check your medicine cabinet and drop off any unwanted drugs at the drug drop boxes located at the front entrance to both the Yakima Police and Yakima County Sheriff's offices.
