Are You Wearing a Color To Support Women in Yakima Today?
Are you wearing red? Friday is the American Heart Association's Wear Red for Women Day. It's a day the association is calling on everyone to wear red to spread awareness that 1 in 3 women are dying from cardiovascular disease.
Heart disease kills a woman every 80 seconds in America
In fact they say heart disease takes more lives than all forms of cancer combined. And cardiac events are on the rise in young women in their 20's. But studies show the youngest, most diverse groups of women are the least aware that cardiovascular disease is their greatest health threat.
Women (and men) are encouraged to “wear red and give” as part of the American Heart Association’s signature movement, Go Red for Women.
Women have a higher risk of stroke, suffering about 55-thousand more strokes than men each year.
If you're a young woman start a healthy lifestyle Today
If you are a young woman doctors say now is the time to think about healthy exercise and good nutrition so you can develop good healthy habits as you age.
The association says much of the attention with heart disease is focused on men which is the reason for the Wear Red campaign to bring attention to the fact that more women than men die from heart disease every year.
