10-year-old Yakima Girl Named CMN Patient Ambassador
She's 10-years-old from the city of Yakima and she's been named the Ace Hardware Foundation Tenth Ace All-Star. She is Yakima’s own darling, Lily Baker. Baker is the organization’s tenth Ace All-Star patient ambassador.
This week the Ace Hardware Foundation and the local Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Hospital - MultiCare Yakima Memorial Hospital - surprised Lily and her family with an event to welcome them into the Ace community.
LILY WILL HELP RAISE AWARENESS FOR HEALING WORK AT CMN
A press release says as "Ace’s tenth Ace Cares for Kids All-Star, Lily will serve as national patient ambassador for the Ace Foundation, raising awareness for the excellent work that is done at local CMN Hospitals across the country."
Lily has an incredible story. She was born three weeks early in 2012. Doctors found that Lily was having problems and transferred her to the NICU where doctors later gave the news that Lily had Down Syndrome. As you can imagine that was tough news for her mother Kelly. That's when the Children's Miracle Network stepped in to help. They helped Kelly keep appointments and focus on her daughter.
LILY'S MOM RECEIVED HELP FROM CMN FROM THE START
“I’m raising a gentle, PERFECT little girl who just happened to have 3 copies of her 21st chromosome,” says Kelly. “She loves animals of all kinds, playing outside with her friends, swinging, and saying, “BY MYSELF MOMMY!!!” Some say Lily is different, Kelly would have to agree… she IS different. But so is everyone else. She just has a diagnosis for it. And Kelly learned that from Children’s Village."
OFFICIALS AT ACE HARDWARE PRAISE LILY AND HER STORY
“We are honored to welcome Lily into the Ace All-Star family,” says Kane Calamari, President of the Ace Hardware Foundation. “Lily and her family will join Ace in raising awareness for CMN Hospitals and generating essential funding for other children facing illness. Her story of fortitude, determination and optimism is one that we know will inspire our Ace community and beyond.”
LILY WAS ONE IN A MILLION
The press release says "Lily was selected by the Ace Foundation following a nationwide campaign that gave every Children’s Miracle Network Hospital an opportunity to nominate a deserving patient. As the tenth Ace All-Star, a $10,000 donation from Duracell will be made to MultiCare Yakima Memorial Hospital in Lily’s honor.
Throughout the year, Lily will make special appearances and will be treated to exciting surprises from Ace Hardware. As a proud supporter of CMN Hospitals, Ace Hardware is dedicated to raising funds for children’s hospitals across the country, including MultiCare Yakima Memorial Hospital. Over the past 30 years, the Ace Foundation has raised more than $183 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. "
