Yakima Fire Department Firefighters were called to a fire Monday at the Serinity Day Spa at 3910 Summitview. Crews were called to the building at about 9:00 p.m. when they arrived they found heavy smoke coming from the roof of the two story building. Crews entered the building to find fire on the second floor which was quickly doused. Firefighters say the fire could have spread throughout the entire building had it had oxygen but no windows in the building broke during the blaze to allow the fire to spread. The cause of the fire remains under investigation but damage is estimated at $400,000. They say the damage was caused by heavy smoke and fire damage was limited to the second floor business and attic space. But firefighters know the fire could have been much larger.
YFD Captain Michael Wagner says “This fire could have been much worse if it wasn’t for early detection from the fire alarm system and the quick actions of responding crews”
No injuries were reported.

A press release says Yakima Fire Department Firefighters had lots of help and worked for hours to douse the flames. The press release says West Valley Fire Department also responded and assisted with controlling the fire.
Cleanup started early Tuesday morning as the owners of the building work to get it back to normal. Fire officials say burned materials will have to be removed from the second floor and the inside will have to be rebuilt before the business can reopen and again offer day spa services in Yakima.
