Yakima County Sheriff Won’t Enforce New Gun Law
Yakima County Sheriff Robert Udell is joining other sheriff's around the state in not actively enforcing initiative 1639 which was approved by voters in 2018.
The new law raises the age to purchase a semi-automatic rifle from 18 to 21, calls for enhanced background checks, and requires buyers to complete a firearm safety course. The initiative also holds gun owners accountable if someone uses their firearm to harm themselves or others. Udell joins other sheriff's who have pledged not to enforce the law including the Klickitat County Sheriff , The Lewis County Sheriff's Office and Republic Police Department.
