The Yakima County Commissioners on Tuesday decided against paying for the defense of Yakima County Clerk Janelle Riddle in a current recall effort filed against her. The commissioners voted unanimously against paying for attorney's for her defense of a recall effort that questions her ability to lead the office. Riddle will now have to pay for the lawyers herself.
The commissioners made the decision after hearing from Yakima County Prosecuting Attorney Joe Brusic he says the county wasn't obligated to pay for Riddle's defense. And on Tuesday Brusic told commissioners the county was prohibited by county code from funding the defense. Yakima Business Times Publisher Bruce Smith along with Grandview attorney Rick Kimbrough and Yakima attorneys Robert Young and Richard Johnson filed paperwork with the Yakima County Auditors office late last month to start the recall process.
