Yakima City council members are set to talk about public safety during a Friday meeting. Mayor Kathy Coffey says the council will talk about the efforts of the Yakima Police Department and how the department is using its resources to combat the problem. "Of course as you can imagine it's of great concern for the council and we want to make sure Yakima Police have everything they need."
Coffey says they'll also discuss federal immigration legislation after city officials had a discussion with 4th District Congressman Dan Newhouse. Newhouse will not attend the meeting but staff members are expected to be there. The meeting is set for 1:00 p.m. at the Yakima Training Annex at 421 East Chestnut Avenue.
And while it's open to the public no public comments will be taken during the meeting.
