Cyclists from Yakima and around the state are invited to join officials in Anacortes this Sunday, Sept. 14, to celebrate and dedicate Washington’s first segment of a new national bike route system.

Washington’s U.S. Bike Route 10 spans 416 miles across northern Washington on State Route 20 through Skagit, Okanogan, Ferry, Stevens and Pend Oreille counties. It is the first bicycle route to receive designation in the Northwest and the contiguous West Coast states The USBR 10 interstate route will eventually connect all the northern-tier states, linking Washington state to Maine.

The Washington State Department of Transportation and Washington Bikes are celebrating the dedication as part of an event beginning at 10 a.m. at Eighth and Commercial in downtown Anacortes. The event includes a number of activities such as a bike ride, vintage bike show, formal ribbon cutting, biking demonstrations, bike repair station, live music, information displays and a bike parts swap meet. The ribbon cutting will be held at 1 p.m. with remarks from local, state and elected officials.

Formal designation of USBR 10 was made possible through partnerships and collaboration with Washington Bikes and cities and towns, national park and tribal communities along the route: Anacortes, Burlington, Mount Vernon, Sedro-Woolley, Concrete, Rockport, Marblemount, Mazama, Winthrop, Twisp, Okanogan, Omak, Riverside, Tonasket, Republic, Kettle Falls, Colville and Newport.
