SUPPORTING COMMUNITIES BATTLING THE PROBLEM
Manjarrez says "our state is facing a devastating drug crisis, and those on the front lines see the impact every day. We must do more to support their work and deliver real solutions that save lives and protect our communities."
A centerpiece of her work in the legislature was House Bill 2168, which sought to establish a statewide overdose mapping and response system.
LEGISLATION HAD FULL SUPPORT BUT DIDN'T GET TO THE GOVERNOR'S DESK
The legislation aimed to make real-time sharing of overdose data happen statewide, allowing first responders to act fast, allocate resources effectively, and connect individuals with treatment and recovery services. The bill had strong bipartisan support and passed both chambers, but did not reach the governor’s desk before the legislative session ended.
AIMING FOR THE 2027 SESSION
Manjarrez has committed to continuing efforts with stakeholders to address concerns and advance the policy further in the next legislative session. Manjarrez serves on the Substance Use Recovery Services Advisory Committee (SURSAC), where she works with stakeholders to improve Washington’s response system to substance use disorders. Her work stresses recovery, accountability, and "measurable outcomes."
