Walla Walla’s Favorite Bat Honored This Weekend! Biff! Pow! Whack!
Actor Adam West did a short turn on TV as the campy 60's Batman and he has become a cult legend, pop icon, and a favorite son of Walla Walla where he grew up. This weekend marks the 4th annual Adam West day in Walla Walla and today's radio show guest, David Goehner, is an Adam West/Batman expert and will be speaking on a panel on the 55th anniversary of the TV Series.
For you youngsters out there, the show featured two superheroes in Batman and Robin, called the dynamic duo, as crime fighters in mythical Gotham City. They routinely were called to the aid of the Gotham City Police when foiled by a never-ending parade of supervillains k=like the Joker, the Riddler, the Penguin, Catwoman, and more!
For the first two seasons, starting in 1966, Batman aired twice a week on consecutive nights with each story being a cliffhanger followed by an exciting conclusion. The show ended in production in 1968.
IMDB shows a brief bio and a 127 entry list of Movie & TV credits for West.
"Adam West was born William West Anderson on September 1928.... At age 10, West had a cache of comic books; and starting in 1939, Batman, who appeared in Detective Comics, made a big impression on him....(later) West got a job as a disc jockey at a local radio station (Like Dave & Lance!!) and when he came to Hollywood he adopted the stage name "Adam West", which fit his roles, as he was cast in some westerns.
