Toys for Tots is one of the most amazing programs in the world. Not only is it headed up by the United States Marine Corps, it helps less fortunate children locally have toys for the holiday season. The Marines are hanging out at Toys R Us today (Nov. 6) to accept donations from the public.

It's all part of the Marines' commitment to service.

The United States Marine Corps mission:

The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.

Toys For Tots began in 1947 when a Merchant Marine and his wife realized that some kids didn't get toys for Christmas. So the Marine's wife started making, by hand, stuffed animals. They handed them out and that is how this amazing program got started!

Stop by Toys R Us today until 7  p.m., check out their M1A1 tank and say hi to the USMC. Take a toy or cash and feel good this holiday season!

Here's one of their biggest events last season:
