Forum on Antibiotic Stewardship on Tuesday - the U.S. Food and Drug Administration released its final Veterinary Feed Directive rule - a major component of FDA’s plan to promote judicious use of medically important antibiotics in food-producing animals. The regulations change the requirements for a VFD from a licensed veterinarian for medications and the responsibilities of feed manufacturers when fulfilling the VFD.

The House Agriculture Committee held a hearing Wednesday to review rising foreign ag subsidies. Dr. Darren Hudson - International Center for Agricultural Competitiveness Director - testified on the scope and nature of foreign ag subsidies, the harm they cause and the need for the U.S. government to make sure foreign competitors comply with their trade commitments. House Ag Chair Mike Conaway says so often producers have to compete against other governments. House Ag Ranking Member Collin Peterson says U.S. farmers and ranchers need to be on a level playing field.
