(Updated 6:00 p.m. Sunday) One Escaped Inmate Behind Bars Police Still Searching For Other Inmate

Yakima County Sheriff's deputies say a man who escaped the Yakima county jail on Pacific Avenue last Tuesday is back behind bars Today. And authorities are actively searching for the second inmate. Detectives say 31-year-old Chad Tipton of Post Falls, Idaho was arrested on Friday night in Olympia after Tumwater Police received a call reporting the location of Tipton at a Safeway gas station near the Olympia city line. Officers from the Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force arrested Tipton and transferred him back to Yakima to face escape charges. Authorities are still looking for 31-year-old Steven Roche, of Spokane, Washington.

Arrest warrants have been issued for the two inmates who escaped from the Yakima County Jail on Pacific Avenue on Tuesday. Authorities continue the search for the inmates Today. Yakima County Department of Corrections Director Ed Campbell says the inmates were reported missing at about 4:00 a.m. Tuesday. Campbell says "A door leading to the outside was unsecure." He says a lock on a door leading from an inside recreation yard to the outside failed allowing the inmates to escape. Authorities don't know if the two are in the area or have left Yakima County.

Officials at the Yakima County Department of Corrections say they discovered the two were at about 4 a.m., when a door from an inside recreational yard to the outside was found "unsecured."

Corrections officials say all indications are the door would have had to be left unsecured by a staff member who had access to facility keys. The two inmates are identified as Steven Roche of Spokane and Chad Tipton of Post Falls,

Idaho.

Both were being held on charges from Kootenai County, Idaho. Douglas is accused of burglary and forgery, while Tipton is accused of assault and other charges.
Anyone who has information regarding the two subjects are asked to contact local law enforcement or call 911.

The Yakima County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
