Trial Underway For Man Charged With Shooting in West Valley

18-year-old Cameron Helland is on trial in Yakima County Superior Court this week after being charged with the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy in the parking lot of West Valley Park in November of 2018. Police say it was a result of an argument during a drug deal. Davontae Ray Mesa died at a Yakima hospital. Hellend faces a charge of second degree murder.
Opening statements in the trial were held Thursday morning. The trial is expected to last two weeks.
