A man who police say forced his way into a home last month and slashed the throat of the resident was charged in Yakima County Superior Court Monday.
Yakima Police say 23-year-old Chandler Ford didn't know the woman and they haven't been able to establish a motive. They say three people were at the home in the 900 block of South 53rd Avenue on September 25 when Ford forced his way inside and slashed the throat of 80-year-old Barbara Borgen.
The others were not injured.
Borgen continues to recover after being treated at a local hospital.
Ford was charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree burglary, and first-degree assault.
Police say a neighbor called 911 and officers arrived in time to find Ford at the home. He fought with officers and during the struggle slashed an officer in the face with a razor blade. The officer was treated and released from a local hospital.
Ford is being held in the Yakima County jail.
