Yakima County Commissioner Mike Leita is retiring at the end of the year. On Thursday the Yakima County Republican Central Committee named three people the committee believes should replace Leita. They are Vicki Baker, Amanda McKinney and Nolan Wentz.
Republican precinct officers met with 10 candidates on Thursday before making the choices.
Baker is the owner of Yakima's Grocery Outlet, Wentz is a retired police officer and Mckinney is the owner of a mortgage company.
The action on Thursday was dictated by Washington state law that says that three eligible candidates must be named by the incumbent party.
Commissioners Ron Anderson and Norm Childress will choose the final person after January 1 of 2020.
