Dogs are man's best friend and great companions.  Their contributions are recognized to the point that about eight percent of workplaces in the U.S. now allow them to join their owners in the office.

Several studies have shown dogs in the workplace provide more social support for employees, as well as more opportunities for coworkers to interact in a positive setting. Let's face it, its tough to be mad at the guy in the next cubicle when he loves your dog almost as much as you do!

Having your dog at work insures employees who own dogs are able to avoid missing work to go home in the middle of the day to quickly feed or walk their dog or rush home at the end of the day to tend to their pet.

But hound lovers take heed -- not all dogs are perfect for office environments, and not all employees enjoy dogs so experts caution that workplaces should lay down some rules before allowing canines in the office.
