Horror films should be ruling the box office this time of year, but it’s an off year for Hollywood so even the scariest flicks aren’t ringing up ticket sales.

The pre-Halloween weekend generated just $75 million in total ticket sales, the second-lowest weekend this year to date which is no doubt frightening to the industry!.

Jigsaw was #1 but brought in just $16.25 million, the lowest ever for a movie in the Saw franchise.

All this got me wondering about the scariest movie scenes of all time.  You know the ones where you spend more time looking down at your popcorn than up at the screen!

HMV.com surveyed two-thousand people to find out the most frightening scene in horror film history.  I’m not a fan of the genre but somehow I’ve seen most of these iconic moments…except for number one.  That is the only movie I ever walked out of and I have no green pea soup regrets!

The top-10:
10. The rocking chair in "Woman in Black" (2012)
9. Man cutting off foot in "Saw" (2004)
8. Night vision scene from "Silence of the Lambs" (1991)
7. The children being attacked in "The Birds" (1963)
6. Grady Twins in the corridor scene from "The Shining" (1980)
5. Chest burst scene in "Alien" (1979)
4. Girl coming out of the TV in "The Ring" (2002)
3. The hand grabbing the arm in "Carrie" (1976)
