“He just never shows any emotion”!  Know somebody like that…maybe it’s you?  Showing emotions shows others that you have experienced and processed the current communication or circumstance.

Now, thanks to science, we now know that there are 27 distinct human emotions. The study was just published in the Proceeds of the National Academy of Sciences.

Researchers showed volunteers more than 21-hundred videos, that at 5 to 10 seconds each, were designed provoke reactions.

Then they had their volunteers describe their emotional responses to what they saw and after sifting through all of that, the researchers boiled it down to emotional categories that they say are truly distinct ,

So what’s the human repertoire of reaction?

--Admiration
--Adoration
--Aesthetic Appreciation

--Amusement
--Anxiety

--Awe
--Awkwardness
--Boredom
--Calmness
--Confusion
--Craving

--Disgust
--Empathetic pain
--Entrancement
--Envy
--Excitement

--Fear
--Horror
--Interest
--Joy
--Nostalgia
--Romance

--Sadness
--Satisfaction
--Sexual desire
--Sympathy
--Triumph

When I first read the list I laughed, I cried, I experienced the full range of human emotion…but not entirely!
