The Carol Swain Story – We Need It Now More Than Ever
Perfect Timing! My wife shared an article with me last night called "What I Can Teach You About Racism" by Carol Swain. The timing is perfect because of what happened over the weekend. Major league(?) baseball, backed by corporate sponsors, decided to pull the 2021 baseball all star game out of Atlanta, Georgia
The motivation for the decision was as a "woke" reaction to (and punishment for?) the Georgia State Legislature passing an election reform bill. Senate Bill 202 called the "Election Integrity Act of 2021."
The measure includes the following justification " (1) Following the 2018 and 2020 elections, there was a significant lack of confidence in Georgia election systems, with many electors concerned about allegations of rampant voter suppression and many electors concerned about allegations of rampant voter fraud; (2) Many Georgia election processes were challenged in court, including the subjective signature-matching requirements, by Georgians on all sides of the political spectrum before and after the 2020 general election; (3) The stress of the 2020 elections, with a dramatic increase in absentee-by-mail ballots and pandemic restrictions, demonstrated where there were opportunities to update existing processes to reduce the burden on election officials and boost voter confidence;"
The intent of the legislations sounds reasonable enough but the problems come about through partisan political interpretation and biased media presentations. It doesn't help when the President of the United States is out front telling lies and misrepresenting what the bill does and doesn't do.
The legislation is being called racist because it allegedly targets black voters. What an insult to the black community. How incapable do their supposed supporters believe them to be? Which brings us back to the article by Carol Swain.
The highly accomplish Ms Swain shares her story in just a few paragraphs and manages to deflate all the presumably well intentioned but misguided anti-racist activism by baseball and corporate America. As she and other prominent black Americans have said, it's the truth that sets you free, not virtue signaling wokeness. .
Swain says those wanting to truly help black America are approaching the needs of black America from the wrong direction. Empowerment of black people doesn't come about from canceling out white people.
