Dorthy knew when she wasn't in Kansas anymore...and gun toting Washingtonians know they sure as heck are not in Texas.  What does Texas get that we don't?

Perhaps it's a better understanding of and appreciation for the Second Amendment to the Constitution?

It's the tale of two headlines.

From Northwest Public Broadcasting , "Openly carrying guns and other weapons are now prohibited at the Washington state Capitol and public protests statewide, under a measure signed into law Wednesday by Gov. Jay Inslee. The new law... bars people from carrying weapons, either on their person or in their vehicle, while attending a permitted demonstration at a public place or while being within 250 feet of the perimeter of a permitted demonstration."

Meanwhile, deep in the heart of Texas.  From the Texas Tribune, " A measure long sought by conservative activists allowing Texans to carry handguns without a license is on the cusp of becoming law after the Texas Senate approved a compromise on the bill Monday, sending it to Gov. Greg Abbott.  Abbott has said he would sign the permitless carry proposal into law."

Supporters of the Texas law say it will allow people to better defend themselves in public and eliminate unnecessary obstacles to the right to bear arms. Texas already allows rifles to be carried in public without a license.

While it IS Texas, not everyone is on board.  Gun control groups are aghast and law enforcement groups oppose it saying it would endanger them and the public.

The bottom line for Texans is they know each person is their own first responder.  The bad guys will always have guns, at least now every Texan will be allowed the opportunity to be equally armed and able to defend themselves while they wait for the Rangers to arrive.

Hey, if that's enough good for Texas, why not Washington State?  We have bad guys with guns too.

You know, sometimes, some of the bad guys turn out to be just guys generating negative consequences born of good intentions.  Just another reason to work on your drawl?
