After seeing several comments on social media that every Taco Time fast-food joint in Yakima has closed its doors for good, I needed to find out the truth for myself.

The website for Taco Time shows two locations are temporarily closed, so I called each location this morning hoping to find out fact from fiction and get some answers for the community.

It's a Sad Day in Yakima for Fans of Taco Time

Taco Time has been a fixture in Yakima for 48 years. The first indication that Taco Time's time is through came from several Taco Time employees themselves, who shared online about their heartbreak and frustration at being told they no longer had a job.

Is Taco Time Permanently Closed? Here's What We Know

After several attempts to reach an employee on the phone at each Yakima Taco Time location, I finally got a verified response about the South 1st Street location's status.

The employee who answered the phone said that "it was just time for the store to close, and that the owners did not want to renew the contract." The employee also said there will be no last day of operation for this location because the restaurants are now officially closed permanently.

I noticed that the reader sign on the Taco Time on Nob Hill said it was "Temporarily Closed for Maintenance." I have not received any confirmations about the other Taco Time locations including the one in Sunnyside (1850 Yakima Valley Highway), but if there are any new updates, I will be sure to list it here.

Local Reaction to Taco Time Closures

While some former customers are actually excited to hear the news about the closure because they didn't particularly like the food, others are pretty bummed about it, including yours truly.

I really enjoyed eating their burrito that had the sunflower seeds in it. I always felt healthy when I ate them plus, I thought their salsa was one of the tastiest fast-food ones around.

The Washington State Department of Revenue shows that the first Taco Time location was established at 2111 S 1st St on December 1, 1978. The next franchise opened in 1985 on S 16th Ave near Yakima Valley Community College, followed by a new location on Yakima Ave in 1989.
