SPOKANE (AP) — Lane restrictions on Interstate 90 through the city of Spokane will be removed this weekend to help Memorial Day traffic.

Work to fix concrete panels and bridge expansion joints on the freeway has been causing major traffic backups eastbound from downtown Spokane.

The Spokesman-Review reports the state normally clears away construction-related traffic restrictions during major holidays.

The situation is going to become more difficult after the holiday. That's because westbound traffic will also be reduced to two lanes through the construction area.
