The Washington State House of Representatives has approved a resolution honoring former Capitol Theatre Chief Executive Officer Steve Caffery.

Caffery, who served as CEO of the nonprofit Capitol Theatre Committee for the past 28 years, retired from the position in February.

The legislation was introduced and sponsored by Yakima's 14th District Republican, Norm Johnson.

"Steve really led the effort to bring back the Capitol Theatre to its former glory where it has become one of the crown jewels of the old-style theaters in the Pacific Northwest," Johnson said. "He helped to make it an important part of our local arts community, making it home to the Yakima Symphony Orchestra and community concerts. And even in recent times where the theater's finances struggled, he helped to get them back into shape to where the Capitol Theatre is thriving and profitable."

"He and his wife, Anne, have not only been great community leaders, but they are good friends who have really made a difference in Yakima," Johnson added.
