Special Emphasis Patrols Underway, Looking for Impaired Drivers
If you choose to drive while impaired this holiday season, there are 145 police agencies around Washington working to make sure you are arrested and prosecuted. That’s the message today from a coalition of agencies working this holiday season to keep roads safe
Yakima police and sheriff's deputies are joining Washington State Patrol troopers through Jan. 2 on special DUI emphasis patrols. The patrols are funded by the Washington State Traffic Safety Commission. Spokeswoman Angie Ward says the emphasis patrols are part of an ongoing campaign called Target Zero. It's an effort to eliminate traffic deaths in the state by the year 2030.
The agencies working the extra patrols in the Yakima Valley include the Grandview Police Department, Klickitat County Sheriff's Office, Sunnyside Police Department, Yakima County Sheriff's Office and the Yakima Police Department.
