A man who failed to stop and lead officers on a chase in the lower valley last week is being held in the Yakima County jail. Authorities say when officers tried to stop 63-year-old Guadalupe Mendoza Mejia for violating a no contact order last Thursday at a home in Sunnyside he fled in a vehicle and refused to stop. During the chase Mendoza Mejia rammed a Sunnyside Police vehicle and two Sunnyside Officers fired shots at the suspect but no injuries were reported. The suspect also rammed a Yakima County Sheriff's Deputy’s patrol SUV on the driver’s side, plowing the patrol car into a vineyard and injuring the Deputy. The Deputy was treated at a local hospital and released last week.  The vehicle was eventually stopped by police in Sunnyside and the suspect was taken into custody. The investigation continues Today by the Yakima Valley Special Investigative Unit, Sunnyside Police and the Yakima County Sheriff's Office.
63-year-old Guadalupe Mendoza Mejia is facing charges of  DUI, eluding, assault 1st and 2nd degree, and violation of a no contact order. He was booked into the Yakima County Jail.
