Which is more effective in trimming down for that summer vacation - low calorie or vegetarian?

A new study shows vegetarians lose weight more effectively and improve their metabolism by reducing muscle fat compared to low-calorie dieters.

To be honest, I really didn’t want to have to say that  - but - a group of people with type 2 diabetes, were divided and randomly selected to follow a vegetarian diet or a conventional anti-diabetic diet.  The results were significant -- the vegetarian diet was nearly twice as effective at reducing body weight.

The conventional diet followed recommendations from the European Association for the Study of Diabetes and resulted in a 7 pound average loss.

Participants on the vegetarian diet ate mostly vegetables, grains, legumes, fruits and nuts with animal products limited to one low-fat yogurt per day and averaged a 14 pound weight loss.  (UPI)
