As the weather improves the spring and summer door knocking season begins and officials at the Better Business Bureau of Eastern Washington says that's when scammers get busy. BBB spokesperson Anna Bruggeman says beware of people who stop and say they can fix your roof, your yard or pave a driveway for cheap. She says never hire someone on your doorstep. And if you do "make sure you have a contract in place and make sure you have everything detailed in that contract."
And if you do hire someone you don't know Bruggeman says never pay up front. She says always wait until the job is finished.
Bruggeman says one of the most popular scams are people selling alarm services. In fact in 2016, consumer complaints about home security sales ranked in the top 25 of the 3,500 business categories BBB tracks.
