It's that time of year time to clean out your medicine cabinet and look for those important documents you don't want anyone to find. Crime Stoppers Yakima County will be holding the annual Shreds and Meds day, Saturday April 24 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Cashmere Bank at 127 West Yakima Avenue. You're encouraged to bring your outdated financial documents and other documents to be shredded. But material is limited to a max of two banker boxes or three grocery bags.
You can also turn in unused or expired medications to be destroyed. Officials say the medications and the papers must be in separate bags or boxes. There's no cost to the service but crime stoppers is is accepting donations to support the organization expenses and reward funds.  In-person events will be held at the Selah Police Department, Tieton City Hall, Catholic Charities Serving Central Washington. Other places include Triumph Treatment Services, and Sunnyside Police Department. Local authorities along with the Yakima event other places where people can take outdated medications include the Selah Police Department, Tieton City Hall, Catholic Charities Serving Central Washington, Triumph Treatment Services, and Sunnyside Police Department.
According to the American Public Health Association, more than 40 people die every day due to prescription drug overdose and there is growing concern about teens using prescriptions from our own medicine cabinets to get high. This is why the safe disposal of these medications is so important for our community and our families. Drop boxes where you can drop off unwanted medications are located in a number of areas in the Yakima Valley.
