Residents who had to leave homes near the Rattlesnake Ridge landslide area have been given the OK to return to their homes. The Yakima Valley Office of Emergency Management Wednesday afternoon changed the evacuation level for Thorp Road near the landslide from a Level 3 “Go” to a Level 1 “Be Ready.” The change is based on the findings in the report that was released Wednesday from the third party geological review that says it may take years for the slide to happen.
The change in evacuation level means that the office is no longer recommending an evacuation for the homes on Thorp Road. Residents can begin returning ASAP but officials say they should  “Be Ready” to evacuate again if conditions change.
The Yakima Valley Office of Emergency Management has a process in place to alert the public to future changes in evacuation levels.
