Dozens gathered Saturday afternoon to dedicate the opening of Kiwanis Park on land that was once an eyesore.

The renovation started about six years ago. It was funded by grants and donations from the Yakima School District and the Rotary and Kiwanis clubs. Organizers say the property was once home to gangs.

Now neighbors say it's a place for families.

"There was nothing here a few years ago there just was gang members. Now all you see is kids and nice people," said Rosalinda Renteria.

The renovations cost about $3 million. The 34 acre complex has ball fields, basketball courts, a skate complex and more.
