A 19-year-old Prosser man is facing charges after authorities say they found him in possession of nearly 20 pounds of marijuana.

The Yakima Herald-Republic reports that Samuel Tlatenchi was charged Monday with possessing marijuana and heroin.

Grandview police had responded to a home on Oct. 17 after residents reported hearing someone in their basement.

Court documents say officers arrived to find Tlatenchi coming out of the basement with 19.5 pounds of marijuana and 3 grams of heroin.

State law allows people to have an ounce of marijuana for personal use.

Police say the homeowners knew Tlatenchi but said he did not have permission to enter the residence or store items there.

The suspect remains held on $10,000 bail and will be arraigned on the charges next week.
