Yakima Police are investigating a crash reported at 40th and Chestnut on Sunday that police say was caused by a drunk driver. Capt. Jay Seely says officers were called to the crash at the intersection of 40th and Chestnut Avenues at about 5:25 p.m Sunday.

Seely says a BMW crashed into a Chevrolet Avalanche in the intersection causing the BMW to roll into a nearby yard. A press release says witnesses told officers the driver of the BMW was intoxicated and driving at high speeds before running the stop sign while driving eastbound on Chestnut Ave and colliding with the Avalanche.

A passenger in the Avalanche was injured and transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment. The driver of the Avalanche sustained minor injuries and three children, a 4-year-old and two 3-months-old in the backseat were not injured.
The 26-year-old driver of the BMW was treated for injuries and arrested on charges of DUI and vehicular assault. He was booked into the Yakima County jail.
