Police Say 2 Teens Died in Recent Sunnyside Shooting
Two people killed in a shooting on Friday, February 16 in Sunnyside were both young brothers according to the Yakima County Coroners Office. An autopsy on Monday found the two died of multiple gunshot wounds. Police suspect more than one shooter was involved.
THE TWO YOUNG BROTHERS HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED
The two victims have been identified as 13-year-old Isaac Hernandez and 17-year-old Maurice Hernandez. Both were found shot dead in a vehicle at about 10:40 pm Friday, February 16 after police responded to a call of shots fired in the 1500 block of East Edison Avenue.
THE BROTHERS WERE IN THE CAR WAITING FOR MOM IN THE STORE
Authorities say the two brothers were with their mother when they stopped at a store in the area. While the mother was inside the store the two were shot dead. There's no word if the shooting was gang or drug related. So far no arrests have been made.
MANY KILLINGS IN THE LOWER VALLEY TOWN OF SUNNYSIDE ARE CONNECTED TO DRUGS AND GANGS
Even though police aren't saying if the killings are connected to drugs or gangs many assaults and murders in the lower valley are directly tied to the ongoing drug and gang wars happening in the valley. In fact police are still looking for answers in another homicide reported in April of last year.
A MAN FOUND SHOT DEAD IN A CANAL LAST APRIL
The body of a 28-year-old Sunnyside man was found near an irrigation canal in Sunnyside. Deputies were called to the 100 block of Williamson Road where Sunnyside Officers found the body near the canal. Casey Schilperoort with the Yakima County Sheriff's Office says they found the body with a gunshot wound. The man was identified as 28-year-old Ernesto Monzon-Chaidez from Sunnyside. He died from multiple gunshot wounds.
