Yakima Police are investigating the Friday night shooting death of a 33-year-old man -- the ninth homicide reported in the city this year.

According to Saturday news release prepared by Capt. Jeff Schneider, officers received a report of shots fired near West Peach Street and Cornell Avenue at about 10:40 p.m. They found the victim there and sent him to a Yakima hospital, but he died shortly afterward.

Police say the victim was involved in some sort of altercation that led to the shooting.

They aren't releasing the victim's name until his next of kin can be notified.

Meantime, the Yakima Association of Churches and Faith Communities are planning a Moment of Blessing at noon Tuesday at the site of the crime, according to a Sunday report in the Yakima Herald-Republic.
