KENT, Wash. (AP) — Authorities have identified the suburban Seattle police officer who died after being hit by a fellow officer in a patrol car that was chasing a fleeing suspect.
Kent Police Officer Diego Moreno died Sunday after eight years with the department.
The Venezuela native was honored last year by the city with a Lifesaving Medal for saving someone from an opioid overdose.
Investigators say that Moreno was trying to deploy spike strips at an intersection when he was hit by the police vehicle.
The police car was chasing a red truck seen leaving a parking lot where gunshots were reported just before 2 a.m. Sunday.
The other officer and the suspect both crashed.
The other officer was taken to a Seattle hospital in critical condition.
One person was taken into custody.
