A Yakima school has been recognized for the impact it's made on the community. A news release says Perry Technical Institute has been named the 2020 Excellence in Community Service award recipient by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and  Colleges (ACCSC) during the ACCSC’s virtual Professional Development Conference. The award recognizes "outstanding" contributions the school has made on the personal lives of school personnel, students, and community members.

"The  Excellence  in  Community Service Award recognizes ACCSC-accredited institutions foroutstanding contributions made to their local community  through  service  initiatives  and  their  impact  on  the  personal  lives  of  school  personnel, students, and community members.

While there were several deciding factors that ultimately led to the selection, key components highlighted by  ACCSC  made  the  Perry  Tech  nomination  stand  out.  Citing  cross  collaboration  across  multiple programmatic  departments, Perry highlighted  their  capacity for  developing  partnerships  with  local organizations including Habitat for Humanity and La Casa Hogar where students from the Construction, Electrical Technology, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology and Plumbing Technology disciplines had the first-hand opportunity to develop their skills through community project focused instructor-led training."
