One person was killed and another injured after being struck by trains in the lower valley both Saturday and Sunday. Officials from  Burlington Northern Santa-Fe say a 17-year-old boy was killed at about  8:00 A.M. Saturday as he was walking on tracks near Toppenish. They say the crew in the eastbound train of empty grain cars saw the boy on the tracks but couldn't stop in time.

The second incident happened on Sunday just before 11:00 a.m. when a 51-year-old woman was struck by a train as she was trying to cross the tracks between Buena Way and South Toppenish Avenue. She was taken to a hospital where she's expected to survive her injuries.
