It was Sunday August 22 when 23-year-old Jose Rivera De La Cruz was walking out of the mall when he was shot dead at the southwest entrance. Union Gap Police say he was caught in the middle of a shooting between rival gang members. Today police have the shooter in custody facing a murder charge.

THE SHOOTING SUSPECT WAS ARRESTED ON TUESDAY

On Tuesday members of the Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force located and arrested 26-year-old Jonathan Edgar Navarro a known gang member from Toppenish. He's being held in the Yakima County jail on murder and assault charges.  In an earlier operation authorities says the suspect vehicle, a black BMW 328, was also located and seized for evidence.

POLICE SAY THEY FOUND 14 SHELL CASINGS AT THE MALL

Police say Navarro was shooting at cars in the parking lot when he struck De La Cruz who had simply been shopping at the mall on August 22 when he was shot dead. Police recovered 14 shell casings at the scene of the shooting.

POLICE ARE STILL SEARCHING FOR A SECOND SUSPECT

While Navarro is in jail police are searching for another suspect. An arrest warrant has been issued for Henry N. Zuniga-Soriano for the charge of Rendering Criminal Assistance 1st Degree. Zuniga-Soriano is from Zillah and is a known criminal street gang member. He’s considered armed and dangerous. Police are hoping for tips from the public to find the suspect.
