For years many of us shopped at Albertson’s at 40th and Tieton. We’ll soon be back in the building but this time shopping for garden supplies and a whole bunch of other stuff.

The Hometown Ace Hardware on Tieton is moving across the street

Melissa Christenson is the co-owner of the Hometown Ace Hardware at 3700 Tieton Drive which will move across the street to the former Albertson’s building later this year or early next year. Christenson says work is underway on the building at 40th and Tieton giving Ace Hardware a much larger space than the current store. She says the new store will be 30,000 square feet with 10,000 square feet being leased to another business that would fit with the large Ace Hardware store.

With more space you'll see new items and larger sections for pets and toys

Like other businesses Ace Hardware is also having supply challenges with the Ace Hardware warehouse filling about 60% of orders on any given day. But once the new store is open shoppers will see a lot of big changes and a much larger store. Besides the usual favorites that you’ll find at Ace Hardware the new store will have a much larger pet supply area along with more pool chemicals and toys for kids. You’ll also find larger areas for hunting and fishing supplies. No guns will be sold but they’ll be selling ammunition.

The owners are hoping the new store will open late this year or early next year

Construction is underway right now but Christenson says the opening date hasn’t yet been determined. She’s hoping for December but she says it’ll likely be early next year. She says when they are ready to make the move the closure of the current store will happen on a Friday night and the new store will open on Saturday morning.

Another new store is also planned in Terrace Heights

While planning for the move and opening of the new store Christenson says they’re also forming plans to open a new Ace Hardware Store in Terrace Heights. They’ve purchased land near the current 7-11 store. Planning is underway with a planned opening in 2023.

Christenson owns the Hometown Ace Hardware, Roys Ace Hardware in Downtown Yakima and the Oak Creek Ace Hardware in Naches where you'll find Minutemen Coffee for sale in the store. The official coffee of KIT News!
