• Yakima County Sheriff's deputies continue to search for a suspect and a stolen car after a woman was assaulted in the driveway of her west valley home on Tuesday.

    Now detectives say they are looking for a green two-door Acura with tinted windows. The car was in the area at the time of the crime and could have involved the suspect.

    The suspect threatened the owner and stole her vehicle a dark blue GMC Acadia with the license number of AHX6173.

    Anyone who can help detectives is asked to call the Yakima County Sheriff at 574-2500.

  • The 13 people who want to be the next member of the Yakima City Council will have a chance today to tell city leaders why they want to be appointed to the vacant seat.

    The seat was held by Sara Bristol but she resigned in December to take a new job in Oregon.

    After the interviews, the list will be paired down to the top picks on Friday. Those people will then go through another round of interviews and one person will be chosen as the new council member to be sworn in Jan. 21.

    That person will then be the seventh vote needed to elect a new mayor. The interviews will start at 9:30 a.m. at Yakima City Hall.

  • This week police are searching the car Arias was sitting in when he was shot by officer 29-year-old Casey Gillete who remains on leave. Investigators from the state patrol are also making diagrams of how the bullets entered the vehicle.

    The final report on the shooting will be passed to the county prosecutors office to determine if the shooting was justified.

  • Yakima Police say two people were robbed while sitting in a car in the 1400 block of Cherry Ave. at about 2:40 p.m. Sunday.

    Officers say two suspects approached the vehicle and pointed handguns at the people in the car. The suspects took cash and a handgun the two victims were carrying.

    No injuries were reported and no arrests were made.
