I’m old enough to remember the original promises of the past-- how technology would make us so much more productive in the future, and professionally applied technology has. But personal technology such as cellphones, texting, Facebook, etc. is now actually killing our productivity.CareerBuilder surveyed 2,200 hiring and human resource managers across the U.S. and found more than half of them named cellphones and texting as productivity-killers, while 44 percent named the Internet, 36 percent named social media and 31 percent named emails as all contributing to a loss of personal productivity.

CareerBuilder says distracted employees equate with lower-quality work, missed deadlines and lower morale.

Study leaders say there are so many stimulants in today's workplace that employees get sidetracked. I guess the message is “timing and moderation” because studies also show  taking breaks from work throughout the day can actually be good for productivity.  (CBS News)
