On the TV show Sanford and Son, comedian Redd Foxx used to feign a major heart attack and cry out to the heavens to his deceased wife Elizabeth, claiming he was coming to join her because he was about to suffer "The Big One"!  That was funny then but talk of the BIG ONE now is anything but funny in the Pacific Northwest.

A new study has confirmed the region just off the coast of Washington has all the makings for a megaquake --The Big One!

Without knowing when, regional officials are planning for the worst case scenario with "14,000 people dead, 30,000 injured, thousands more left homeless and the region's economy setback for years, if not decades".
Scientists say the last big quake here was around 300 years ago and they say conditions show a major even is possible t roughly every 200 to 530 years.  In other words we are due or getting close.

Now there's something to chew on for conversation at your Thanksgiving day dinner table.
