Local officials will celebrate the reopening of the Naches-Tieton Road with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday.

Yakima County Senior Transportation planner Alan Adolph says major construction to improve the main road between Naches and Tieton is nearly complete.

It’s a very important county-farm-to-market freight mobility access road.

The opening of the new grade will improve safety, all-weather access and freight mobility. The new features include a widened and realigned roadway, a truck lane and paved shoulders for bicyclists and pedestrians.

Construction started last year on the $6.1 million reconstruction project and was funded with federal and county funds.

It is the final segment in the Naches-Tieton Corridor Project launched in the mid-1990s that extends to South Naches Road and Highway 12.
