The circle of life rolled on recently at Wide Hollow Creek in the West Valley Community Park.  First- and second-graders from Mountainview Elementary School watched the tank in the library as the salmon eggs hatched into alevins and then become fry. Then it was time to check out of the library and into the real world.

After a trip to the trampoline park, the kids were wired and ready to release the fry! After a sack lunch, the excited the kids dipped, scooped and dumped the tiny fish into the creek to send them on their way to the Yakima River, on to the Columbia and ultimately the Pacific Ocean.

How many will make it? The odds are slim, but the lessons learned are as big as the kids' smiles -- large and long lasting.
