Within the next two weeks the Yakima City Council will be voting on renaming “A” Street.

Mayor Micah Cawley says the council voted to table a request on Tuesday made by veterans groups to rename the street after Jack Pendleton, Yakima's only Medal Of Honor recipient.

The issue was tabled until the validity of a previous request to rename the street after civil rights activist Cesar Chavez can be checked out.

Cawley says “this issue isn’t over. You have three votes that want to make the change right away and three that want to do some research.” Cawley says within the next two weeks the council will have clarity on the issue and will once again vote on the issue of renaming “A” Street.

In the meantime the issue is tabled and under research.
