The monument to be built over the grave of Yakima's Medal of Honor recipient is expected to be unveiled later this year. Ramon Dang of Yakima with the help of Yakima residents raised $8,000 in donations to build the monument for SS Jack Pendleton at Tahoma Cemetary in Yakima. Dang, who appeared on The Morning News on KIT Tuesday says he had hoped to have the monument in place by Memorial weekend next month. "It started last month and will take another 3 to 4 months to complete." He's now hoping to unveil the monument in September.
The monument, which will include a picture of Pendleton and his Medal of Honor will also include an area to thank the community for helping to raise the funds to build the monument.
